A simple to make soda bread.

Ingredients

Yields
  • Butter, for greasing
  • 225gPlain flour plus extra for dusting
  • 225gSelf rising flour ( alternatively use self rising wholemeal for extra fibre)
  • 1tspBicarbonate of soda
  • 2tbspBlack treacle ( or use maple syrup or honey or golden syrup)
  • 50gPorridge oats, plus 1 tbsp for sprinkling
  • 475mlAlmond milk ( or other alternative vegan milk)
  • 1tspSea salt

Instructions

  1. 1

    1. Preheat the oven to 200C/180C fan/Gas 6 and grease a baking tray with butter. (See note below)

  2. 2

    2. Mix all the bread ingredients together in a large bowl until a soft sticky dough is formed. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and form into a round. Sprinkle the additional 1 tbsp of oats on top and transfer to the baking tray.

  3. 3

3 Bake for around 35 - 40 mins, or until golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Place on a wire rack to cool.

  4. 4

Note. As the dough can be very sticky and hard to handle, if you have a silicon bread mould, or a lekue bread maker the dough can be poured directly into that.
